Today was a no-ride rest day. A late start, a late nice breakfast, lounge on the terrace, catch up with the real world, plan our Mauritania route and stays.
Dakhla is a town as remote as they get seeing a massive transformation ... there are now direct flights from a lot of places including some in Europe ... and people are beginning to come.
There is construction everywhere ... streets being repaved, sidewalks being fixed ... hotels and restaurants being built ... it is easy to imagine where it is all going ... but it is not here yet ... glimpses of its old self are still here.
Today was windy ... I wonder is this is more common than an exception because of the wind surfing around ... sunny and a nice 65 degrees.
For the first time, we are seen sub-saharan people all around ... met people from Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia, Senegal ... looks like there a lot of work around here with all this renovation and construction projects.
The markets are full of used things from all over the world ... clothes, tools, cell phones, trinkets ... it is interesting to think that, all in all, the world in its totality is probably at its best in its history in terms of development ... more people that ever able to feed themselves, more people than ever with access to health care and education ... cell phones everywhere (?!?) ... the strength of the human spirit to improve is strong ... we will get there eventually.
Tomorrow, we head to the border and into Mauritania.
